What is the secret
Thai method of treating silk to pre-shrink the fabric and make it easier to care for?
The special Thai process of curing aka treating aka heating
aka steaming silk is called in Thai ope paa.. It costs $1.00 per yard of
fabric.
The process makes the material slightly softer, much harder to wrinkle and much easier to iron. Sometimes it is done using steam.
We do it by soaking the silk in special chemicals and then drying it in
the sun.
Treatment ensures that after the silk fabric is cut into clothing
parts, it won't
shrink when washed properly. Of course, you must still follow the care and cleaning
directions on our site to keep your silk in excellent condition and looking
good for decades or even centuries. Treatment will shrink your fabric at least 1-5%. (Assume 5% in your calculations of length needed.)
Please take
note that we cannot control the effect of treatment on color. Treatment
can change the color of a fabric. Sometimes it gets darker. Sometimes
it gets lighter. Sometimes there is no change. In a two-tone fabric, sometimes
treatment brings out the warp color to a greater degree than the weft color.
If precise color, hue, saturation and shade are serious
issues for you then you should order a fabric treatment test which costs
US$5.00. We will take several samples of colors closely matching the sample you
supply or choose from our catalog and have them treated. We will then know which
will most closely match after treatment the color you want.
