What is dupioni silk? Dupioni is an interesting textured silk fabric. One way Thai weavers create this popular weave is by mixing silk from both long, smooth, white cocoons and short, rough, yellow cocoons. Thai weavers do not use this term. They instead refer to the fabric as “not smooth”. We now categorize weaves locally referred to as rough, nubby, coarse and not smooth as “Thai Dupioni”.
