The “standard” Thai width for home spun Thai silk is 40 inches/101.6 centimeters. This depends on the weaver's loom. Thais measure the width of silk in centimeters (2.54 cm/inch) but the length in yards. Price is by the but Thailand uses a unique silk measuring system. A Thai “yard” is only 90 cm or 35.4” so a Thai “half-yard” is only 45 cm or 17.7”. One meter (100 cm) equals 39.37 inches. A normal retail order is comprised of about four yards of silk because a woman's short-sleeve blouse and knee-length skirt requires about four yards of silk.
